Walmart has recently taken action to enhance the holiday shopping experience for those of us shopping for kids!

Shopping for toys in Walmart has never been made simpler. I had the pleasure of taking an in store tour with the assistant manager of my local Walmart, 10 Mile in Meridian, Idaho. It begins as soon as you walk in & notice a few aisles with some of the more popular & greatly priced items! This is where I found the Hatchimals or the recent released Hatchibabies (all the rave this season, it’s what my little had on Santa’s list!) and a few other items such as the Little Live Pets, & remote control trucks, and even Crayola Easels for the little ones! Then as you venture through the store you will find mini aisle setups through the larger areas of various items ranging from smaller toys such as LOL stocking stuffers, or Doc McStuffins. This makes a great convenience if you’re in the store shopping for supplies and find what you need without having to walk across the store. Walmart’s Toyland area features a number of various aisles and end caps staging the most popular selection of toys for children with an ease of searching for parents or those looking for gifts. Keep an eye out for the bright yellow and easy readable signage to help locate the exact toy you are in search of.
How exactly do they decide on what toys to feature in the America’s Best Toy Shop?
Well, they start putting in the effort long before the season starts. By using in store demos, & specialty events for influencers, etc. they allow kids to test new toys/products and share their own opinions and favorites. Their “toy play dates” featured in store are a great way for kids to play with new items & select their favorites, all while having fun, entering giveaways, & snapping some pictures. And in case you didn’t know, America’s best toy shop is a booklet featuring 40+ of the most desired toys picked by the kids themselves, so if you don’t have time to browse around, snag a book when you head into Walmart, or view it online to see what the favorites are this holiday season. This year they have expanded the edition of toys by 30% in store and 40% online so there is bound to be something for everyone.
Lets make Holiday Shopping even easier…with Walmart’s new Pickup Tower
There’s a new device, created to make in store pickup easier, & more efficient for the customer! It’s called the Pickup Tower, & if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry, they are making their way into most Walmart’s soon. In Idaho, we currently have 4 (this photo is the 10 mile Meridian Walmart). So what is this & why is this a game changer? Think of a personalized vending machine that holds over 200 products all ready for customer pickup. It is the first thing you see when you walk in, & it’s conveniently located in the front of the store. Walk up, scan the bar code from your ready for pickup email, (through your phone or you can print it out if needed), & watch your items come to you like a sophisticated vending machine that knows just what you want. Okay, so what about those larger items right? Well, see those lockers on the right? That’s where all the larger items are currently stored, & when you scan your email or check in ahead of time through your phone/app an employee is alerted right away and heads to the front to meet you for pickup. You can also ship to other stores so if you’re needing to order gifts for family and want to avoid the typical gift card in the mail, purchase on Walmart.com & let them pick it up at their local Walmart! Each package comes wrapped in a box or sealed bag as well so if you’re running in to pick up gifts you won’t have to worry about the kids sneaking a peak!
Got the App? & a few other tricks to make shopping a breeze…
Download the Walmart App for ease of use in store or in the comfort of your own home. You can easily compare pricing between in store product & online. Quickly view what is in stock for easy pickup & find exactly what aisle a product is stashed in if you’re short on time. Click the bar code on the app to scan for pricing or to quickly search if online is a better deal without the hassle of typing out the toy name and all the details! This is probably my favorite feature as I like to be the best bargain shopper I can.
There is a new device called “Checkout with Me” where you can find an employee or they will find you if the lines become unbearably long. It will allow smooth simple checkout for card purchases through the handheld device, & you can checkout in the garden area if you’re headed that way.
With all these new features, Walmart is really increasing the customer interaction, & making this a simple smooth process for all parents, grandparents, & really anyone that is out shopping for kids. It takes the guesswork out of it for those that have no idea what kids enjoy or want & provides suggestions for anyone that needs it! So tell me, what was your ‘Best Toy’ item pickup this year??
I want to take a moment to thank 10 Mile Meridian Walmart for an incredibly great tour from the assistant manager & employees who were amazingly helpful and informative of all my questions. This store made me feel welcome, everyone was kind, it was one of the cleanest I have come across, & very spacious were I didn’t feel crowded or rushed at all.
